New Developments

During the past decade, significant progress has been made in developing new drought monitoring tools and revising some of the existing tools. Most of these developments have improved the temporal and spatial resolution of drought monitoring, providing better information to decision makers regarding specific events. Other developments include near-real-time access to data and improved information sharing, available as a result of the Internet; satellite technology; geographic information systems (GIS); and supercomputing capabilities.
