The United States remains highly influential in international energy policy development and remains one of the few nations that have not ratified the Kyoto protocol. As the single largest energy-using nation, policy to promote DE is clearly needed to develop capacity to meet the USA's rising demand. Many innovative policy developments have been introduced at the State level that have effectively buoyed DE markets and the USA remains one of the world leaders in renewable energy development.
