There would be stronger local stretching deformation in the exit region of each jet, which contributes to a stabilizing influence on the eddies. The meridional shear on both sides of each jet is also reduced. Such feedback effect is comparable to the counterpart found in GCM simulations (Black and Dole, 2000). The modification is stronger for the Atlantic jet. The strength of modification itself is relatively mild. This is a posteriori verification that the form of forcing used in the model will yield relevant time mean jets.
